Docklands Sinfonia ... Jeffery's Timpani Concerto again!!

Conducted by Spencer Down

Docklands Sinfonia

My Timpani Concerto was written for and dedicated to Alan Cumberland and the LPO. Since its conception more and more soloists have felt able to approach the considerable technical challenges of this work in its two piano reduction and in the orchestral version.

It may interest players and listeners that elements of choreography are ‘composed’ into the score – whilst not explicit dance moves it will be noted that the sticking for the soloist is often mirrored or echoed by other percussionists and at points of dynamic drama include flamboyant physical activity from the main protagonists.

Sunday 19 February 2012, 7.30pm Civic Theatre, Chelmsford CM1 1LD
Programme ..
Coates: London Suite
Wilson: Timpani Concerto (Soloist Scott Wilson)
Delius: The Walk to the Paradise Garden
Elgar: Enigma Variations
Docklands Sinfonia celebrates the very best of British orchestral music with pieces by Coates, Wilson, Delius and Elgar.
Coates’ work has been made famous by many films, TV and radio programmes – The Dam Busters being his most famous. However, for this performance, we shall hear his most popular piece – the London Suite, which effortlessly evokes the very ‘Britishness’ of 1930’s Britain.
Jeffery Wilson’s Timpani Concerto is a visual and aural feast of melodic and rhythmic drama.
Delius’ The Walk to the Paradise Garden is a truly beautiful and masterful piece. A perennial favourite, audiences cannot help but be moved by the sheer emotion of this music.
Lastly, Elgar’s Enigma Variations is arguably one of the most popular British orchestral works
